- Czechia – an electronic vignette (dálniční známka) is required for the motorways (D-roads); the shortest is a 1-day vignette (10-day, 30-day and annual options are also available), bought online or at the border.

- Mountain and local roads are toll-free — you only need the vignette for the motorways.
- Czechia is in the Schengen area, so there are no routine checks at the Polish–Czech border.

What you must carry in the car
On this route a warning triangle and a reflective vest are mandatory – keep the vest in the cabin (not the boot) and put it on before you get out after a breakdown; ideally one per passenger. A first-aid kit is required in Czechia. Spare bulbs are useful too. Missing equipment can mean a fine if you are stopped.
When to set off
The busiest days are summer Fridays and Saturdays on the D1 towards Prague and on the mountain roads into Krkonoše, and winter weekends when the Giant Mountains draw heavy ski traffic. If you can, travel midweek or early in the morning, and take a break every 2–3 hours.
The most common problems on this route
The route is short and mostly easy, so fatigue is less of an issue; the demanding parts are the winding mountain roads into the Giant Mountains and the Jizera range, where the brakes and clutch work hardest, and winter conditions on the ski approaches. If the temperature gauge rises, pull over and switch off, but do not open a hot cooling system until it has cooled.

Third-party (OC) insurance does not cover towing your own car. Abroad, assistance cover is what matters – check whether yours applies abroad and how far it tows, as some only reach the nearest workshop. With assistance we work with your insurer; without it, we arrange transport independently.

What to see – Czechia
